Did you know that February 25 to March 1st is #fairdealingweek in Canada?
Fair Dealing is an important exception and user right in the Copyright Act that allows for the reproduction of content without the permission of the copyright owner, under certain conditions (including the purpose and the amount).
The ADISQ, which can be translated to the Québec Association for the Recording, Concert and Video Industries, recently asked the federal government, that is currently reviewing the Copyright Act, to ensure artists in the music industry receive more compensation for their work.
The uOttawa library has determined that not renewing its licence with Access Copyright covering access to copyright protected materials is in the best interest of the University community. As a result, beginning on January 1, 2016, the University will be operating without this licence. Students will benefit directly from this decision in the form of reduced fees.
